Bella
Nina is scared. She just lost her job because she was falsely accused of being lazy and drunk. The fact is that she has just found out that she is pregnant and is agonizing over whether she should abort her baby. With no one to turn to, Nina is adrift, until the chef of the restaurant where she works, Jose, reaches out to her.
Jose had been a rising soccer star until a troubling accident changed his life forever. Over the day in the city, Nina and Jose open themselves to one another. Nina discovers that family, faith, and love really do exist. And Jose finds, through Nina, a road to recovering himself.
Bella was the winner of the 2005 People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival. It falls into the "must see" category. Beautiful and heart-wrenching, Bella is an affirmation of the idea that sacrifice in the cause of love is still the greatest virtue.

Scene Setup: Manny is the manager of a Mexican restaurant. Nina is a waitress. On a busy day, she shows up late as Manny is giving out instructions for the day. Manny confronts her on the sidewalk.
Scene Setup: Nina and her friend and co-worker, Jose, are spending the day together in New York City. Nina is trying to decide what to do about her newly discovered pregnancy. She is depressed about her life; everything appears bleak. And then, suddenly, they come across a man, peddling on the street, who gives Nina a much-needed gift.
Scene Setup: Jose has left his job as head chef at his brother, Manny's restaurant, without notice, in order to counsel and comfort Nina, a young, single woman who has just discovered that she is pregnant. When Jose returns for his cell phone, Manny sees him and explodes. Their argument reveals how much value each places on the lives around him.
Scene Setup: Nina and her co-worker, Jose, are sitting down for lunch at a local restaurant. Nina has just told Jose that she is pregnant. Though he is not the father, they are just friends, he wants to help. The question is, will she let him?
