Sermon Illustrations from The Book of Eli (2010)

In a post-apocalyptic world, Eli walks west, carrying with him a book that can save the world. Unfortunately, the evil Carnegie also wants to get his hands on Eli's book, though not at all for the same purposes. Both men know the power of the words contained in the book, but one intends it to heal the nations, while the other wants to twist them to serve is own desires. This is one of the most original films of the decade, with outstanding material for sermon illustrations and discussions. But the film is rated R for good reasons, so discretion in its use is strongly advised.

Movie's Sermon General's Warning:
The Book of Eli contains graphic violence, insinuations of attempted rape, and at least one very brief image of a partially clad naked body. Discretion is strongly advised.

Rating: R      Genre: Drama

FilmTalk Card - How valuable is the Word of God to you?

The Book of Eli can stimulate discussions about our obligation to confront evil and do good, even at great risk to ourselves; how to resist temptation, and how the scriptures can be twisted by those who want to use, rather than follow, them. The Book of Eli can also inspire talk about the nature and influence of faith, and how knowing God's Word intimately is a source of comfort, direction, and strength.
