Sermon Illustrations from Star Trek (2009)

Destined to resurrect the Star Trek franchise, this film takes us back to the earliest days of James T. Kirk, before he was "captain of the starship Enterprise." After the death of his father, Kirk, a young hothead, is challenged by Admiral Pike to make something of himself by enlisting in Star Fleet Academy. There he meets Dr. McCoy, Mr. Spock, Uhura, and the others who will one day make up his crew. But first he must find a way to thwart an advanced race of Romulans who are bent on destroying Earth in a bid for revenge. Coming sermon illustrations include the topics of calling, and the relationship between grace and judgment.

Movie's Sermon General's Warning:
Star Trek contains lots of intense action violence and a brief scene of sensuality.

Rating: PG-13      Genre: Science Fiction

FilmTalk Card - How do you prepare for God's call to boldly go where no one has gone before?

Star Trek can stimulate discussions about the connection between love and sacrifice, the nature of calling, and dangerous desire for vengeance. Star Trek can also inspire talk about the relationship between leadership and servanthood, and between grace and judgment.
